Lam Tai Fai College

Celebrating Distinguished Athlete Alumni and the Construction of Arts and Culture Development Centre

On February 28, our school held the Ground breaking Ceremony for the new Arts and Culture Development Centre, proposed to open its doors in September 2026.

The city has been anticipating Edgar Cheung’s return to his alma mater after his victory at the 2024 Olympic Games. Our school hosted the Lam Tai Fai Charitable Foundation Outstanding Athletes Incentive Awards Scheme Prize Presentation to celebrate our alumni’s victories in the past year. The event invited Dr. Lam Tai Fai, along with Mr. Kenneth Fok, as guest of honour. Several outstanding alumni athletes participated in the ceremony as award recipients, including Olympic gold medallist Edgar Cheung, and table tennis athletes Wong Chun Ting, Tong Chi Ming and Lee Hoi Man Karen.

To recognize their achievements, the Lam Tai Fai Charitable Foundation awarded a total of approximately HKD 3.8 million to the four alumni athletes. Dr. Lam Tai Fai presented the cheque to honour them. Edgar Cheung and Wong Chun Ting also gave back to their alma mater by donating their competition fencing gear and well-used table tennis racket, respectively, to express their gratitude. During the sharing session, Cheung encouraged the current students to not give up, insisting on "Don’t lose your way." Wong Chun Ting motivated the students to work hard in sports, make good use of the extensive resources provided by the school, and unleash their personal potential. Their sharing inspired resilience and the spirit of perseverance in the face of challenges.

On the same day, Dr. Lam Tai Fai led the guests to successfully complete the ground breaking ceremony of the school’s new eight-story "Arts and Culture Development Centre." The building will provide various facilities, such as a Visual Arts and Fashion Centre, Performance and Lecture Theatre, and Multi-Purpose Area, creating a better learning environment for students and nurturing talent, with a commitment to promoting the development of arts and culture.

An athlete sharing session was also held on the day, as eager students interacted with Wong Chun Ting, Edgar Cheung and other outstanding alumni athletes in friendly matches filled with roars and cheers. Wong brought his expertise and passion to the table, playing alongside the students and fostering a spirit of camaraderie. Additionally, Cheung attended a friendly fencing match among the students. With great enthusiasm, he watched the bouts unfold, offering valuable insights and encouragement to the young fencers. This interaction not only highlighted the importance of sportsmanship, but also provided the students with a unique opportunity to learn from experts in their respective fields.
