Lam Tai Fai College recently hosted Project Shenzhou: Water Rocket Launch Competition, an experiential STEAM initiative organized as an extension of the national Tiangong Class space lecture series. Inspired by China's remarkable aerospace achievements, and further energized by Lai Ka Ying making history as Hong Kong's first payload specialist selected for the national space program, the event offered students an exciting combination of aerospace exploration and hands-on engineering.

The activity began with an immersive session exploring the history, structural design, and milestones of national aerospace technology. Inspired by the real-world engineering showcased in China's space program, students worked collaboratively in teams to design and build their own water propelled rockets using fundamental principles of physics and fluid dynamics.

On launch day, the school grounds transformed into an active rocket testing site. Working as student engineers, participants engaged in hands-on practical testing by carefully adjusting launch angles, fine tuning water volume, and optimizing air pressure. Teams put their designs to the test as they competed for maximum flight distance, peak altitude, and landing accuracy.

By connecting basic water propulsion physics to real world aerospace achievements, the competition deepened students' practical problem-solving skills, strengthened team collaboration, and inspired pride in national scientific progress, demonstrating to Hong Kong youth that space dreams are well within their reach.
