was awarded the Honorary University Fellowship by Open University of Hong Kong
In recognition of Professor Yeung Kwok Wing's contributions to Hong Kong and the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK), the Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Lee Yeh Kwong, presented him with the Honorary University Fellowship on 6th November, 2015 in OUHK.
Professor Yeung is the Executive Director of Clothing Industry Training Authority (CITA), the sole official organization in Hong Kong for training talents for the clothing and fashion industry. Prior to that, he was the Vice President (Academic Development) of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He was a former Council member of the OUHK.
A well-respected scholar, Professor Yeung was a pioneer in leading the advancement of the textile and clothing industry. His academic pursuit started in the 1960s at the then Hong Kong Technical College where he received a Higher Diploma in Dyeing, Printing and Finishing Technology. Following his research interests in the field of textile chemistry, he then obtained his PhD degree at the Queen's University of Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1978.
Professor Yeung has made notable contributions in the textile and clothing sector, particularly in introducing various international accreditations for the professional development of the industry. He is the Founding Chairman of the Society of Textile Scientists and Engineers in Asia, and the former Chairman and Fellow of Hong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel. His professional qualifications include, among others, the Fellow of the Textile Institute in UK and Society of Dyers and Colourists, and a Chartered Textile Technologist.
An enlightening educator with global perspectives, Professor Yeung is dedicated to nurturing new talents for the fashion and clothing industry in higher education as well as in secondary school education. He is an Adjunct Professor of Textile and Clothing at the PolyU. He offers his experience in fashion and clothing education in the capacity as an Incorporated Management Committee member of Lam Tai Fai College, a secondary school offering an innovative and broadening curriculum with special emphasis on Fashion Design, Sports Development, Health Education and Innovative Technology. In 2005, Professor Yeung received the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award in recognition of his contribution to the textiles industry in Hong Kong.
Professor Yeung has remarkable contributions to the OUHK in academic collaborations. With his facilitation, in 2005, the OUHK signed an articulation agreement with the Hong Kong Community College, an affiliate of the PolyU for which Professor Yeung was the representative in the capacity of Vice President (Academic Development). In 2008, as the Executive Director of CITA, Professor Yeung facilitated the signing of a cooperation agreement between CITA and the OUHK to jointly offer a two-year full-time top-up programme in fashion business, providing an academic progression pathway for CITA diploma graduates in Fashion Business and Fashion Design & Development to further their study at the OUHK and obtain a bachelor's degree.
Professor Yeung has demonstrated exemplary efforts in the fashion and clothing industry and the related sector. During his tenure as the Vice Chairman of Knitwear Innovation and Design Society (KIDS), he had nurtured and encouraged numerous creative talents. As the Vice Chairman of Hong Kong FTU Qualifications Assessment Centre Limited and a Board Member of the Hong Kong Safety Institute Limited, he has contributed to the professional development in the respective fields.
